Otter Swimming 2
Otter
Otters are playful creatures and a joy to watch and even
better to photograph. Only
in Scotland are you likely to see one, but only on the coast.
They are usually nocturnal but occasionally they are seen
in the daytime such as on the River Wye near my home.
They were heavily persecuted in the 20th Century by fisherman,
with Otter hunts being a common countryside pursuit.
Happily this has almost stopped. The increasing population
of otters are now displacing the mink, which is helping
to improve water vole numbers.
